Advocate · Founder, Aequis Legal
A litigation advocate whose practice is built on one conviction: that the quality of thought before the argument determines everything that follows.
Utkarsh Kumar is a graduate of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (B.A. LL.B with Honours in Business Laws, 2021), one of India's foremost national law schools. He has been in practice since graduation and has built a substantive multi-forum litigation practice in under five years — an unusually rapid trajectory driven by consistent courtroom presence and rigorous legal preparation.
Utkarsh operates from his chambers in New Delhi, appearing regularly before the Supreme Court of India and the High Courts. He represents private individuals, corporations, and state governments, and manages a team of 30+ lawyers across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh across civil, constitutional and commercial matters.
His arbitration practice is among the most distinctive aspects of his work. He has been briefed on ICC international arbitrations and statutory arbitrations conducted before tribunals of the highest composition, including proceedings presided over by former Chief Justices of India. His infrastructure arbitration work, particularly in the road and energy sectors on behalf of national PSUs, has given him deep familiarity with complex, high-stakes multi-party proceedings.
Prior to founding Aequis Legal, Utkarsh gained formative litigation experience at the Allahabad High Court, sitting at Lucknow, where he built a broad and practical base across civil, service, constitutional and criminal matters in one of India's busiest High Courts.
He has represented leading public institutions including NHAI, GAIL, NMDC, NHIDCL, UPMRCL, AAI, RBI, HDFC, IIFCL and IIM Lucknow, as well as private corporations and individuals across the full range of civil and criminal litigation. His work in service law — representing government employees, pensioners and defence personnel before the High Courts — reflects a commitment to accessible representation regardless of the size of the matter.
